J.D. POWER 2004 APEAL STUDY
DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 14 - Ford Motor Company is pleased with its results in the J.D. Power and Associates 2004 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) study. Our five point improvement over 2003 exceeds the two point industry average and gives us confidence that customers are pleased with the design of our newly launched and existing products.
Twelve of our vehicle nameplates were among the top three vehicles per segment making Ford Motor Company the most award-winning manufacturer in the industry. Two vehicles captured top segment awards: Volvo S40 topped the Premium Midsize Car segment and Mercury Marauder topped the Full-Size Car segment, rounding out Ford's sweep of that segment that included the Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Victoria. Other vehicles among the top three in their segment are: Mazda3, Jaguar XJ, Lincoln Town Car, Ford Explorer Sport Trac, Ford F-150 LD, Ford F-250/F-350 Super Duty, Ford Escape (2005) and Mercury Monterey.
Among luxury brands, Jaguar made significant improvements with its APEAL score led by the XJ and the XK. In addition, Mazda was the most improved brand industrywide, moving up 22 index points to 16th place from 23rd place in 2003.
These results show that we are making progress on our promise to deliver high quality products and services. As we continue to launch new and exciting products this year, I expect that we will see an improvement in next year's APEAL results.
