FCA accused of inaccurate deaths reporting
NHTSA finds a "significant failure" of proper deaths and injuries reporting
Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles has been accused of under-reporting deaths and injuries in its vehicles.
FCA is accused by the NHTSA of a “significant failure” to properly disclose the exact number of deaths, injuries and other data. The problem is probably due to issues with the internal company system for gathering and reporting that information.
“This represents a significant failure to meet a manufacturer’s safety responsibilities,” NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind commented.
NHTSA first learned about the problem back in July and contacted FCA US. The producer then informed the agency that in investigating that discrepancy, it has found “significant under-reported notices and claims of deaths, injuries and other information required as part of the Early Warning Reporting system.”
“NHTSA will take appropriate action after gathering additional information on the scope and causes of this failure,” Rosekind added.
